Hey everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful summer and are ready to dive into the upcoming fall semester. I’m excited to be back on campus, but I still have to start packing up for move-in day lol!
This week, I wanted to share some updates on my crochet project that I started a couple of weeks ago. If you haven’t seen my last post, I wrote about a mosaic crochet blanket I was working on that looks like a bookcase. Since my last post, I have made some more progress on the blanket while also gaining a ‘helper’ in the process. Now, I use the term helper loosely as it is just my cat choosing to sit on the blanket in my lap as I am working on it. Every time I sit down to continue where I left off, she jumps up on the couch and makes herself comfortable on the project I am trying to finish. I always end up taking a break for a few minutes when she does this and getting distracted because she is just too cute lol. Her name is Malia, and we found her at our lake house in 2017. She can be a litte feral at times, but it’s ok; she’s just a girl. I’ve managed to snap some pictures of her ‘helping’ me, so I thought I would share them with you all.

She does this every night without fail. In fact, as I was writing this post, she was sitting on me watching me. Now, in terms of my blanket progress, I have completed two more shelves and am currently working on the sixth one. As I said in my last post, the original pattern planned for six completed shelves, but that’s not long enough for how I wanted it. Instead, I am planning on crocheting nine shelves to achieve the desired length. I also tried something a little different for the sixth shelf to try and challenge myself.
In the pattern, there is a blank chart towards the end of the PDF where you can design your own pattern to put on your blanket. One of my favorite book series that I grew up on was the Harry Potter books. My mom used to read them to my sister and I all the time, and she took us to see all the movies when they came out. I thought that it would be a great idea to design a pattern for the Harry Potter books with a lighting bolt bookend to reference this iconic series. After I finish the shelf, I am planning on stitching some numbers on the spines to further identify the books from the others.

So far, the patterns that I created are working out pretty well. I’m a little nervous on how the lightning bolt bookend is going to turn out, but I’m winging it and hoping for the best lol! I’ve made a few mistakes on the other shelves, but I’m not too bothered by it in the long run.
I am extremely happy with how this blanket is forming. It is the biggest and most ambitious crochet project that I have ever done, and I am very proud of myself for challenging myself with this project. Please feel free to leave a comment on your thoughts on my blanket. I would love to hear what you all have to say.
Thank you so much for reading! Have a great end to your summer!
