Senior Show

It’s finally here, the last senior show blog! I had the most incredible time at the show, I’m so proud of all my peers and I accomplished. The gallery looked great and everyone had amazing pieces to share. I feel so lucky that I got to showcase all of my art in a setting like this. It was an experience getting to see all of my pieces shown together, it really connects all of the stories and themes in my work. It is safe to say that all of my hard work paid off. In the end, it was all worth it.

It is safe to say that all of my hard work paid off. In the end, it was all worth it.

I was able to complete everything I had set out to in time for the show. I almost wasn’t able to add my snake cauldron because it was not dry enough to be bisque-fired. Thankfully I was able to speed up the process by slowly heating it in the kiln, hot enough to boil out some of the moisture. It is not something that should be attempted often and letting it air dry is ideal but this saved me in a pinch! My Ace of Cups wall hanging fit together successfully and I feel like it looked even cooler than I imagined when I got to see it on the wall. I loved showing people how the cup could be removed from the hand. I was really happy to add the little battery lights to my lanterns so that people could see the full effect. I chose to add both of my porcelain lanterns because I discovered this semester that they came out more to my liking than the ones I made with red clay. I feel like it was a full-circle moment seeing my chicken feet cauldrons completed. This idea was how I started down the Baba Yaga Hut path and where I started and ended look very different. I had to go through a lot of trial and error to get these two final cauldrons, they are my best examples. I tried out some next glaze combinations which gladly worked out in the end. I was able to see my 2 Mini Yaga Huts next to each other and I loved that while they are similar the more you compare the more different the details become.

Overall I feel so relieved that I no longer have to worry about preparing and now I can enjoy the fruits of my labor and my last days in the studio as the semester winds down. Every day I come into the studio I remember how lucky I am to be there with all of the equipment and tools I could ever dream of, and that I am surrounded by talented peers and a great instructor. I have had an amazing journey learning about ceramics and I hope that I will have more opportunities in the future to further the ideas and themes that I have started to explore in my senior show. This is a bittersweet end to a bright new beginning filled with opportunities.
