For this week, I wanted to try out a different brush and try to use thinner line art that what I typically do.

For the subject matter, I chose to go with a character of mine talking to her fish buddy. I tend to keep my sketches looser if I intend to do a layer that is dedicated to line art because I usually tend to make my sketch layer act as line art after I clean it up.

Doing the line art helped me realize I need to do more exercises to build up my line confidence so I can achieve smoother strokes so they aren’t as scratchy as they look here.

The base colors! I went for corals and oranges on the girl and fish so they pop out from all the blue of the background and the bubble surrounding the fish.

The final stage, shading the whole piece! For this character I do like to go with dull colors and give her a saturated eye color so the viewer looks to her eyes first and then follows to where she’s staring!
Also, as you may have noticed recently I have been having so much fun drawing character in a box and having elements break out of that box, I think when I draw comics I would definitely have to incorporate that into my panels!
I hope that everyone is enjoying the remainder of their summers and are excited for the upcoming semester!
