I will be graduating this May and I truly cannot believe how fast time flies when you’re in college. Four years here and gone like nothing, I have had an amazing experience at Marywood University studying Fine Arts. I have learned so much from the faculty, visiting artists, fellow students, and trips to the museums that have shaped me into the artist I am today.
My last field trip for the year had to be one of may favorites. We visited Dia:Beacon in New York; a contemporary/conceptual art museum that has works mainly from the 60s and 70s. It was incredible! I have never really had the chance to see a lot of these artists works in person so I was thrilled. We saw works from artists such as Louise Bourgeois, Dan Flavin, Sol LeWitt, Robert Morris, Joseph Beuys, Bruce Nauman, Blinky Palermo, Richard Serra and many others. A lot of these pieces are difficult to show so the Dia Art Foundation decided to create a place for them to be properly displayed. The building they are in is an old factory that is large enough to hold some of these giant sculptures but also very beautiful with all natural lighting coming from windows above and all over the building. When you are observing these sculptures/paintings it is best to just look at them with no expectations. Instead of trying to figure what the artwork is, take a minute to think about what it does…or just observe and appreciate.
