Art in Cazenovia NY

I recently spent a day in Cazenovia, New York, and it was such a fun little trip, especially if you like art. The downtown area is charming, with small shops lining the streets. Each shop seemed to have its mini art gallery inside, filled with work by local artists. It was cool to see how many opportunities the small artists had to sell their stuff. The whole town seemed like a big community that supported creative people.

As we were walking around, we came across a plein air watercolor painting class happening right on the street. The class was focused on painting the local buildings, and it was led by a local artist named Dan Shanahan. It was neat to watch the artists work, trying to capture the perspective and architecture of the town. You could tell everyone was really into it, and it made me appreciate the town’s buildings even more.

One of the best stops we made was at Cazenovia Artisans. This place is like an all-in-one art shop, with everything from paintings and drawings to jewelry, sculptures, and even handmade soap. Right now, they’re featuring an artist named Sarah Tietje-Mietz, whose work will be on display through August 2024. The following month, they’ll showcase a ceramist named Vartan Poghosian, which sounds like it’ll be pretty interesting.

After exploring downtown, we took a short drive to an art park just outside of town. The park had trails for walking, and along the way, we saw all kinds of sculptures scattered around. Some were big, some small, and they were made from different materials. It was really cool to see how each sculpture fit into the landscape, and it made for a nice, relaxing walk.

All in all, Cazenovia was a great place to visit, especially if you’re into art. The town is full of creativity, from the shops downtown to the sculptures in the art park. If you’re ever in the area, I’d definitely recommend checking it out!
