Art Show Prep

I have never entered or been in an art show before, so, naturally, I decided on a whim to enter an upcoming one in July 2025. Despite my slow work ethic, I also decided to make these pieces on the biggest paper I own. A whopping 22 x 30” I plan on covering in graphite and tears.

So far I have about a quarter of one piece done (seen below) and about 63 days until the art show, where I will need 3 full pieces done. A bit ambitious, even for me, but not impossible.

Pencil Drawing of two figures walking simultaneously up and down stairs.

My plans so far are to finish this piece by the end of May and take 2 weeks to finish the other two. Will I actually stick to that time frame? Probably not, no. But if all my years of schooling have taught me one thing it’s how to work under tight deadlines.

This specific art show requires the art to be gallery ready, meaning I need to have them framed and ready to hang on walls. Luckily my internship at an art gallery will come in handy here as one of the first things I was taught was how to wire frames. Unlucky for me, I bought the wrong frames and now have to drill into them without breaking them completely to get a wire into it. So far so good.

I have a loose idea of what to do for the other two pieces, I know I want one to be a portrait and the other to be a drawing of a chair in some shape or form. (Knowing me I’ll most likely completely abandon both ideas, as I often do, for something random like a duck or a misshapen hand.)

Either way, I hope by my next post I have, at the very least, one of these pieces completed and ready for show.
