“Art on the Town” is an art walk that takes place in downtown Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas, USVI. Along this walk one is expected to witness a variety of art throughout a historic site. It was an all day event that allowed viewers to enjoy art up close, personal, and at their own pace.
If participating in the art walk, you would receive a map that points out all 19 venues, shops, bars and restaurants that have agreed to be a part of this experience. The walk started at “Zora of St. Thomas,” a specialty shop that has been around since the 1960’s. Zora’s specializes in making custom bags and leather sandals. The shop also houses clothing, jewelry, and art by local artists.
After leaving Zora’s the next stop would be Emancipation Garden or “the garden” as it is affectionately called by locals. There, viewers find vendors selling their work. Everything from hand made clothing and jewelry to paintings, natural soaps to body lotions, and hair products. It was all there and it was amazing to be a part of the process. Remember, “Get Connected, Stay Connected“!
While I was at Art on the Town, I was able to meet all of the amazing artists in the garden. I worked closely with Susan Hunter, a talented woman who just happens to work in my field of study. I learned a great deal of information from her and we will keep in touch. I plan to keep in touch with all the artist that I met that day. Their work is phenomenal! Take a look…
