In my 3D Design class, part of my Foundation Year art classes at Marywood, we recently created some small origami animals, then chose our favorite one to scale up, and then scaled it up AGAIN, but this time in cardboard!

Here is the initial set of my origami birds! I don’t have much experience making origami animals and birds, but this was quite nice! It’s very relaxing making the little birds once you get used to the patterns!

For the next step we had to scale up our little guys, so here is my dear bird 3 times the original size! He even got some friends to play with

He and his friends were discussing the next step of this project, how convenient for me I was just about to bring up the exact same thing!

Now we work in cardboard, and He’s been scaled up one more time! This part was a bit challenging, because I wanted to both keep the original origami elements, but also have him be more three dimensional.

The final bird! I added some thick parts of cardboard between the two birds I initially made to have him be a bit more 3D!
This project was super fun and I really enjoyed working on a very large scale and I’d definitely like to practice more with making cardboard statues!
Have a wonderful week!!
