Gabby Creazzo (Class of 2017)

Major: Graphic Design

Minor: Art History and Photography

I chose Marywood because it just felt right! I knew that I wanted to go to a small school; this was really important to me because I wanted to make strong connections with professors and peers. Especially being an art major, I think it is really important to have a community around you that pushes and supports you, and that’s just what I have at Marywood.

I am majoring in Art because… This is a question that I haven’t really asked myself ever since I chose Graphic Design because I can’t imagine having any other major now. I didn’t decide to be an art major until the spring of my senior year of high school, but I really enjoyed my photography classes there and I took one graphics class that spring. One class and I knew that design was the right art for me. It uses all of my organizational and creative instincts and allows me to express myself.

When I’m not in class, I’m running around doing a million things! I try to work hard in each area of my life; so when I’m not in class, I’m probably at Diving practice, or at work giving tours, or in my room doing homework. When I’m done with all of this (or procrastinating) I am hanging out with my friends, watching TV shows, reading, and listening to music.

My favorite class was… I’ve really enjoyed all of my design classes, but I think if I had to pick a favorite class it would be one of my art history courses. I think that art history is fun to learn about and it has definitely influenced the pieces I’ve made.

The coolest things I’ve done so far are my yearly portfolio reviews, which are really cool. They require a good amount of work but I really like the stress and pressure of it. Also, it feels really good to have all of your projects together and to get feedback on your work. As cool as I think this is, I am studying abroad in London next fall (2015) so I think that will be the coolest thing I do.

When I graduate… I’m not sure yet, I have so many options! I want to be a creative director one day but I’m not sure which area of design this will happen in. I just want to try everything I can to find the place where I fit best. I would really like to do something with branding or book cover design. I also think that I might teach design one day as well.

I’d recommend the Art program at Marywood because it’s a really personalized experience. Everyone in the Art department cares about each student’s education and well-being. I have made really great friends in my major. I love seeing how much we have all grown in only 2 years. It is program that feels like a family.
