Madi Grose (Class of 2025)

Blogger Role: Art Therapy

Major: Art Therapy

Minor: Ceramics

Clubs: Alpha Sigma Psi, DAPI, MUSATA

I chose Marywood because of the experiences and opportunities they had to offer their students. When I first visited, I was amazed by the incredible art facilities and resources on campus, such as the beautiful ceramics studio. I always knew that I wanted to study Art Therapy, and I was drawn to Marywood because they are one of the very few schools that offered an undergraduate Art Therapy program. I was thrilled to begin working in my major as a freshman, instead of declaring a major I wasn’t passionate about as an upperclassman.

When I’m not in class, I love to hang out with my friends and family. The people in my life are very important to me, and I cherish every second I am lucky enough to spend with them. I also love to be outside and in nature. I find it very inspiring and beautiful. I have a rabbit named Maisy and a dog named Winnie, and they are a huge part of my life as well. I also enjoy singing, playing guitar, and going to concerts. Of course, my passion is art. Ceramics is definitely my favorite medium, followed by painting and collage.

So far, my favorite art class at Marywood has been the Ceramics courses I’ve taken with Mark Chuck. He is easily the greatest ceramics teacher I have ever had, and he never fails to inspire me. He has taught me more in 3 years than I ever could’ve imagined possible. He always encourages me to do my best and pushes me to achieve my highest potential. Plus, the Ceramics studio is GORGEOUS.

The coolest thing I’ve done at Marywood so far was go to Africa on a service learning trip! It was a lifelong dream of mine to travel to Africa someday. In collaboration with Marywood and ASEC (the nonprofit African Sisters Education Collaborative), I was lucky enough to be a participant on the 2024 Service Learning Trip to Kenya. The experience was life-changing to say the least. I met so many incredible people and saw so many amazing sights. After spending a month there, I feel that it is safe to say there is a Kenya-sized hole in my heart. I intend on returning in May of this year. I cannot wait to reunite with my Kenyan family. I am forever indebted to Marywood University for giving me the opportunity to make an impact on others and equally grateful for the impact made on me.

When I graduate, I will immediately begin the process of achieving my Masters in Art Therapy. Upon completion, I intend on moving to a warmer state, preferably near the ocean. I hope to work at a private practice as an Art Therapist. As for my desired population, I hope to work with adolescents and adults suffering from complex and abstract mental health conditions. I intend on continuing to pursue my love for ceramics. I hope to have a lot of animals and still make music in my free time.

I’d recommend the Art program at Marywood because of the incredible Art faculty who really push you to achieve your fullest potential. They will impress and inspire you daily. They are the reason the Art department is loved by so many.
