Samantha Ziemba (Class of 2016)
Major: Art Education
Minor: Art History
I chose Marywood because it was close to home and had the most beautiful campus in the area. Marywood is like its own little community, along with having an amazing art department.
I am majoring in Art because it’s something I have been passionate about since I was a kid. I was also influenced by my high school art teacher (also a Marywood graduate), who helped me to further my passion and strive to do, for my students, what he did for me.
When I’m not in class, I’m in the Insalaco second floor lounge listening to music and doing homework, taking a trip to Northern Light [coffee bar] with friends, or in the studio working.
My favorite class was Fibers and Related Media. It was something entirely different that I had never done before. I advise all Art majors to take it because it really has the potential to open your eyes to a whole new idea of art.
The coolest thing I’ve done so far was a spring break trip to Italy. A bunch of students went to Sicily, Naples, and Rome with Dr. Susan Brangers, who taught an Art History course to go along with it. It was the most amazing experience or my life.
When I graduate I plan to open my own studio allowing students of all ages to come explore their interest in creativity and art making.
I’d recommend the Art program at Marywood because we have an amazing, talented, and dedicated faculty, beautiful facilities, and helpful, kind, and friendly students who are always willing to help and give advice.
