BOWS- A Trend I Won’t Quit

As the semester slowly ends and my workload widens, I make it a priority to still make time for myself. For the first time since summer, I’m back to crocheting. My current fascination is ribbon bows since they seem to be on everything fashion related, a hair accessory, the shape of food etc. The other night on Tiktok I came across a creator making a garland out of crocheted bows and I knew I had to attempt it. The actual crochet process was simple enough to be done by a beginner since it only required a chain stitch to whatever length you wanted. Then after tying off the chain stitch, all you had to do was tie it into a bow and repeat the process over and over again. For someone who may be entirely unfamiliar with crochet this craft only requires a crochet hook and any yarn of your choosing.

I made my pile of bows in a variety of colors then taking the thinner string, I had I tied each bow next to each other. I estimated about how long I wanted my garland and began to hang it (before I had to quickly make 1 more bow). Then I used two thumbtacks to stick it above my window and my craft was complete! I think in total it only took me about 40 minutes from start to finish but if I’m honest I’m very fast at making chain stitches. I had only posted one photo of the completed work deep in my Instagram post but already I have had friends reaching out asking if I could teach them to make their own.

Just to understand the relative size of my bows, I used a 0.5 size crochet hook and just scraps of whatever yarn colors I wanted. I found that my red yarn that feels more like coarse rope, takes me a longer time to make a chain but my typical wool yarn was perfect. I love this craft because I already had my supplies, I was familiar with the stitch and I had something I loved in no time. I’ll definitely be making more in the new year since yarn was on my Christmas list. I think the color schemes are truly endless. This could be another homemade gift to give to someone special (or yourself)!
