Butterflies

Hello Everyone! I hope all is well. This week I am going to share with you my recent printmaking project. For this project I got my inspiration from a photograph that I took a little while ago.

To create this project I resized my photograph, and printed it out. Then I traced over parts of the photograph that I wanted to cut out and parts that I didn’t. Once I established this, I then traced the image onto tracing paper before the final transfer the block I was to cut out. Once I traced it onto the block I placed an “x” where I was going to cut out so I didn’t accidently cut in the wrong place.

Before I started to cut I heated my block in the microwave for 15-20 seconds so the material was easier to work with. I had to rewarm it a couple times before I was fully finished cutting out my butterfly.

Once everything was cut out, I did a proof print. Where I inked up my block to see if I had to cut the background out a little more. After the print I noticed some places where I needed to cut down a little more before my final print.

Here is my progress of this project:

I had a lot of fun with project because I was able to bring one of my photographs to life! That’s all for this week! Stay safe and Healthy! I’ll talk to you all next week!
