Capturing Western Landscapes

Right now I am in the middle of a family vacation out west among the National Parks in Utah, Nevada, and Arizona. I am currently sitting under the brilliantly bright stars in a cute little cabin on the Navajo Reservation.

My family and I have been traveling these states to see the beautiful formation that is our National Parks. So far I have seen Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef and Arches National Parks as well as Dead Horse State Park and part of the Navajo Reservation.

I have been doing a few sketches in pencils, watercolors, and acrylics, trying to capture the landscape, and let me tell you it is not easy. Between hiking for most of the day in 90+ heat and then driving for the rest it is hard to find time to sketch and even harder to practice and understand the shape and colors of the landscape. I will talk more in depth about my full experience with it all next week when I have more time and energy as well as more experience.
