Every artist has a special something that can help get their creative ideas going. It could be listening to music, taking a walk, reading a book, or going to a park. It can be anything and everything. Everyone is different in how their ideas come to mind.
For me I usually get my best ideas when I am running (I love to run!) or when I’m at the beach, and sometimes even running while I’m at the beach! Both help me to think of good starting ideas that I can then build off of. Whenever a project is assigned in a class, I try and come up with as many possible ideas as I can, and from those I can choose which I would like to execute. Even though I do a lot of running workouts where the intensity is high, sometimes I just like to go for a leisure run on a boardwalk or on a running trial to get my mind off things. When I clear my head all these ideas start to pop up and then when I get home I usually write them down so I don’t forget.
Having that special something, place, or activity to help get those ideas onto paper is always helpful when trying to achieve the best outcome for a project! Pablo Picasso said “I begin with an idea, and then it becomes something else.” I like this quote because it is so true. You can think of so many ideas and sometimes your final piece may be completely different from what you started with. But that means that your brain is thinking of all the different possible ways to succeed in trying to make the best piece.
