Cross Campaign Ad Project

Hello all! These past few weeks have been super busy, but one of my favorite projects I have been working on has been my Cross Campaign Ad Project for my Intro to Graphic Design class.

We had to create a campaign for an event of our choosing – it could be fictional or real. I chose to do a real event. Boxerfest, is a Subaru-enthusiast car meet in Pennsylvania for the biggest Subaru lovers. There are multiple events to attend and of course, hundreds of different types of Subaru’s to check out. We had to create 4 final deliverables – A poster, a billboard, a t-shirt design, and a social media post. Here’s what I created.

1. Poster

One of the most notable features of older Subarus is the bright blue color on a lot of them. World Rally Blue, is the name of the color, and is super popular amongst the older rally cars. And, as many of you may know, the Subaru logo is blue – this is what lead me to chose a blue theme for all of my finals. I actually was lucky enough to attend Boxerfest last year, and I snapped this photo. It was during a rally demo, so the car was drifting around and I was able to snap this. I knew I always wanted to create some type of graphic with it and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity.

2. Billboard

I had never created anything like a billboard before, so I struggle a little with this one. When creating a billboard, you have to create something eye-catching, but also something simple enough that it can be read quickly. Most billboards will only be viewed for a few seconds since they’re usually on the sides of highways. This is something you might not think about if you’re not a designer, or if you’ve never created a billboard before. So, I decided to use a photo of one of their most famous cars, to catch the viewers eye. I then decided the make “Boxerfest” and “August 18th” the biggest elements, in hopes that they would see the date and the event, and search it on the web. “Mid-Atlantics Largest Subaru Festival” and “Don’t miss” are in smaller sizes since they really aren’t that important for the information, just important for the actual design.

3. T-shirt Design

T-shirt Design! I have also never designed a T-shirt before, so this was fun. For this design, I decided to have a little fun. The reason this entire event is called “Boxerfest” is because of the engines! All of the Subaru cars have an engine called a Boxer engine. Alongside Porsche, they’re one of the only manufactures that use Boxer engines. So, it’s a pretty Subaru-exclusive thing. I have seen shirts with boxing gloves, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a literal box. So, that’s the route I went! I figured it would be funny, because if you’re attending the event, you know that you aren’t going to a show about boxes. It’s almost like a funny little joke for all those going.

4. Social Media Post

Finally, for my social media post, I chose to create an Instagram graphic. I took this photo as well of a friends car, and knew I wanted to use it. Like I said earlier, this is one of their most popular, loved car. Using it for that reason felt necessary. I didn’t want to make it too crowded, so again, I had the event title and the date, and this time included the website for more information.

I had so much fun creating this. This one of the first projects I created where I felt like I might really be getting a glimpse of my future! Thank you for reading!
