Hi guys! So the kiln is being opened tomorrow afternoon and I can’t wait to see my pieces, and of course show you all! But until then, I’m going to look back onto last semester again since we’re waiting for my new pieces to come out.

Elephants have been my favorite animal for as long as I can remember, and now they’re everywhere in retail! This teapot was probably one of the most challenging pieces I’ve ever made because of all the different parts that I had to incorporate. I had to make the spout look like a trunk, add ears, a mouth, a handle and a lid! That’s a lot for one piece, but I really enjoyed the process. Most of the work was done when the clay was fairly wet, which allowed me to sculpt the elephants face best. The carving was done after the clay had hardened up a bit. I made this piece for my Aunt who had been asking for a teapot forever, and she has it on display in her home which makes me so happy. Unfortunately, the glaze on this piece did not come out the way I would have liked it to, but that’s what you get with reduction firings. I wanted it to come out a matte white with lilac hints, but instead it turned into a yellow/brown combination. Maybe eventually I’ll learn to love it. Anyway, I find clay to be most beautiful in its natural, wet or leather hard form. So I tend to document most of my work in that stage as well as once it’s fired and glazed.
