Fun with Quilling!

Hello everyone! Last weekend I had fun doing some quilling, and I wanted to share a little bit about it with you. So you are probably wondering… what is quilling? Well it probably isn’t what you think it is going off of its name. Quilling is the artwork of rolling and gluing paper in order to make different designs. It’s something that I didn’t even know existed until my Grammie introduced me to it! Quilling can sometimes be found on wedding invitations and cards, but can also be a fun craft to do casually.

To begin quilling you will need a bunch of these paper strips. I definitely reccommend getting tons of different colors, because it makes the process more fun. There are actually also many different sized strips that you can use with your project.

With these strips you are going to make different shapes, and depending on the shape that you are making, you will need a different length strip of paper. (I usually end up using too much…)

In order to create my shapes, I used a special tool in order to roll up my paper, tweezers, and glue to hold my shapes together.

After the paper is rolled up onto the tool, then you have to place it in one of the areas shown in the photo above. As you can see, you can create circles of all sizes. We can also use a quilling board as well! With the board below you can see that there are many different options when it comes to shapes as well.

You can also squeeze your shapes with your fingers in order to create different shapes as well. If you squeeze both ends of a circle you can create an “eye” shape. I use these shapes a lot of make leaves for my flowers.

Here is a project that I finished quite recently! As you can see, there are so many possibilities of things you can make with these different shapes. I think that making flowers is my favorite. I added some artwork behind my quilling in order to make this little piece more fun! There are a ton of books out there are feature many different quilling designs, I suggest picking up one if you want to begin quilling. These little ladybugs came from one of those books.

To end this off, quilling is something that it so much fun, and I would definitely recommend trying it out! It’s a unique creative activity that I really enjoy, and I feel is easy to pick up and learn.

Below is another example of a piece I did earlier this year!
