Hi everyone! I hope you all are doing well. The last couple of weeks have been full of throwing on the wheel and glaze research. I don’t have many pictures, but I’ll show you what I do have!
First, I want to talk about the glaze research I’ve been doing. I’ve been deep in research about commercial glazes and combinations I can try to get some really cool surfaces. I’ve been loving this website called GlazeShare where potters can upload information about pieces they’ve made, like clay bodies, glazes, layering, firing temperatures, and more. You can bookmark these pieces on the site and save them for later, so when you’re looking for a cool glaze combination theres somewhere to turn to. Theres paid options as well to support the site, as I believe it’s run by a sole hobby potter. My favorite feature is that you can search for specific glaze combinations to see what they look like. For example, if I had Amaco’s Smokey Merlot and wanted to see what it looked like on top of Amaco’s Obsidian, I could search for that exact combo and see if anyone has used it. With all the help from GlazeShare, I was able to pick out a good array of glazes that will hopefully give me some cool results. They should definitely arrive before my next post, so I cannot wait to share all about them. I’m new to commercial glazes, so I’ll have to get used to the application process and all the other things I don’t even know about yet. I will document as much of the process as possible for you all!
As for throwing, I wanted to throw a lot of my white cone 6 clay so I’d have pieces to test glazes and glaze combinations. I threw a couple of pieces specifically to test the glazes on the clay, like a bowl and a small vase. I also threw some match holders, shot glasses, plates, bowls, and lots of cups. I’ll show you a couple of my favorites.

Well, that’s all I have for this week! Once my glazes arrive, I’ll have a lot more for you all! I would definitely check out GlazeShare if you’re a potter who uses commercial glazes, because it’s been a real help to me over the past couple of weeks. I can’t wait to show you all the cool combinations I’ve found. Side note: the glaze kiln has slowly been filling up with pieces, so I’ll have a lot of finished pieces to show you all soon! Thank you for reading, and stay creative.
