Halloween Art

I try to make a drawing every year on Halloween, specifically for Halloween. But this year, instead of my little 24 hour challenge, I decided to draw a series. I started them in September and just finished at midnight on 10/26. I knew with midterms and work I would absolutely need more than 24 hours to make my Halloween art this year.

I wanted to make at least one piece that was a little more “obviously” horrific, and one that was a little more subtle. The more obvious one is based off a genuine fear I have, imagine looking in a mirror and seeing your face move.

The second piece I actually didn’t “plan” on making but had a weird dream I decided to draw and was experimenting with SFX makeup and had the perfect reference photo all ready for it anyways. This drawing was probably the easiest to do and is my favorite one despite being the least planned.

And finally the last piece took only 3 days to do and is one of the most abstract things I’ve ever made. I’ve really been wanting to push myself out of my comfort zone lately. And that’s what these three drawings are meant for, I wanted to try out this overlapping effect in a few different ways.  I really wanted these pieces to depict getting closer to the figure while simultaneously further away from the humaness/”self.” And October is, in my opinion, the perfect month to be playing around with creepy art effects.

Here are the finished pieces in order:

“Passing Through”

“Oracle, Forgive Me”

“Truth is a dead Fly”

I hope everyone has a fun Halloween and stays safe!
