I recently had the opportunity to do my first group graphic design project, which I was admittedly a little nervous about since I had always done my projects independently up until this point. This type of project was also something I had never done before—an entire board game design down to the mechanics and logo. Now in hindsight after we finished the assignment I realized it was not so bad and I actually had a lot of fun!! All of my team members put in so much effort for our respective parts which really made the entire piece come together as a whole beautifully. I was tasked with creating the logo, some corner spots for our board, and the packaging design.
The premise for our game is that you must be the first to go around the “bar” aka the board, and serve the patrons before the other players can. Going off of this concept and theme, as well as the moodboard my collaborators created, I began to sketch up some concepts for the logo and figured out which one my team liked most. My favorite idea was to have iconography of a martini glass and an exclamation sort of bubble to communicate the title, “Hey Bartender” being shouted by an arrogant customer. After I created many color variations to choose from we all settled on a fun green and pink color combo that does have more colors than I usually use for my logos, however, I think for the purpose of a board game it is perfectly fine.

The packaging also was really fun to create and I based a lot of the design choices on the logo colors. I threw a black brick background into Photoshop to brighten it up, and applied some pink gradients and effects in to make it cohesive with the rest of the design. I also made a fake logo for a board game company that we decided to call “Rich Corporations” that would be the manufacturer for the game. Overall, I loved how this project turned out and look forward to more group projects in the future.
