Indie-animated shows and films have become increasingly popular on the internet over the past decade. Shows like Helluva Boss or Hazbin Hotel, which reached impressive heights, are among many that began from humble beginnings. Others, like Punch Punch Forever, The Amazing Digital Circus, and Lackadaisy stand among them.

Most artists wish to have their concepts or ideas animated. Many artists create fake screenshots or clips of what their show would look like. @brujo_ari_ on Instagram did this quite a bit by displaying what his show would look like and how it would evolve if it was released in the early 2000s. Little did he know, his wish could come true.

I Wanna Eat Your Guts, animated by Shockwave Animation and created by Ari, is currently in production. The main characters Alex and Kate began as JOJO’s Bizarre Adventures characters, Jotaro and Kakyoin. As these characters evolved into Ari’s vision, he eventually chose to separate Jotaro and Kakyoin from the original series and make their own. This became I Wanna Eat Your Guts. Short animated clips, merch, turnarounds, and other peaks into production are slowly being released over time on Ari’s main account and side account @_spacechannel555_.

I find the differences between these two duos to be pretty insane. It’s awesome how much characters can evolve and change when the creative influences of an individual take over. The same has happened in my artistic journey to some extent with other characters or my own OCs! (This was drawn by me.)
I Wanna Eat Your Guts surrounds the antics and life of Kate and Alex as teenagers in the early 2000s. Currently, many things are changing in production. Changes to designs such as hairstyles and the art style due to difficulty animating have been ongoing. Visually, the art style is extraordinarily nostalgic and unique. It stands out in such a cool and amazing way. A good portion of the art released has filters to give it the old feel and crust of older TV content. The characters are lovable, goofy, and well-designed. The diversity of the main cast is also a nice touch as this shows a range of characters that were not often portrayed within media during the early 2000s. The show currently has a Patreon to help support production. Keep an eye on this series and check it out! Creator Ari often posts on Instagram and Twitter so you can see some of his artwork and updates there.
It’s important as artists to remember that we can do anything we want if we put our minds to it! Many popular animators and artists online began from humble beginnings, dreaming big as we do. So shoot for the stars, stay consistent, and pursue your passions in this new year. Set goals for yourself and make the changes within yourself and your artwork that you wish to see.
