Around Christmas time I blogged about gift ideas that designers can make using their artistic skills. It was a really fun list to put together and I really like how sentimental a hand-made gift is! I think the best gifts are the ones that you put your heart and time into. So a little while ago I actually fulfilled this idea by making a gift for one of my best friend’s 21st birthday. I knew I wanted to do something special and put my own touch on something. So I worked for about 2 weeks on an illustration for her!

It was so fun because I drew four of my friends and got to capture their personalities in my drawing. Plus, it was so funny picking outfits and poses that fit my friends best. With a lot of erasing and photo references, I was really happy with how it came out. It was such a great feeling to love something that I made and also knew my friend with love it just as much.

This was so fun for me that I hope to do more illustrations in the future of family and friends. It would be interesting to see how I can take this style and subject matter even further. This was a fun way for me to push my illustration skills. It was a lot of pressure to have a good gift, finish my drawing, and make sure everyone looked like they really do!
