KPop Demon Hunters

KPop Demon Hunters is an animated musical action movie about the double life of a girl group called HUNTR/X. Recently released on June 20, 2025, this movie revolves around three characters: Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. Although they fill the spotlight as a world-famous K-pop group, they dominate their free time as Demon Hunters who protect civilians from unseen dangers.

Demon Hunters use their singing and music to help unite humanity and create a barrier called the “Honmoon.” This barrier separates demons from humans. Without the barrier, demons can flow freely between their world and the human world, where they can feast upon civilians’ souls. HUNTR/X seeks to make the Honmoon “golden” so it can permanently get rid of the demons.

The story builds on this basic goal. It explores the struggle to achieve the golden Honmoon, the wrath of the demons, and the secrets kept within HUNTR/X.

This movie was honestly a lot of fun. It’s very silly and girly, which at times is cringy, but is also very endearing and sweet! Rumi, Mira, and Zoey are so lovable and have such a nice dynamic.

It’s sweet to see friend groups labeling themselves as the main girls. For example, I watched this movie with my two best friends, and I got labeled as the Rumi of the group.

As previously mentioned, this movie is a musical. Some of the songs are really catchy, others are emotionally moving. Overall, most of the songs are pretty good and work well with the story and feelings they’re trying to communicate.

The animation itself is striking. It has a great art style that allows for a lot of movement and expression. The only thing that occasionally catches me off guard is the lack of over-exaggeration in the character’s mouths while singing very intense songs.

Overall I recommend giving this movie a try! As I said before, it’s kind of girly and has a very specific audience but I think it can still be enjoyable to music enjoyers and anyone who wants to try something different! It’s free on Netflix if you have a subscription.
