This week I thought it would be fun to write about one of my contributions to a group graphic design project that I have been working on in my Communication and Conceptual Design class, which is a magazine. I was certainly a little nervous to take on another group project, but similar to my last project that required group work I have a really fun team and enjoyed working on my part so far. For our magazine the art director of our group came up with the idea to make a spooky news magazine that would have all things spooky inside which was something I vibed with as I love anything spooky. For my part I had to create spreads for two short films that I have never seen before until this project, and I am glad I got to do the short film portion because it was fun to watch some creepy independent films and think of how I can represent them in my spreads.

This spread is about a short film called, “Portrait of God” which, although has a little budget, came out super amazing and cinematic. I started this design by browsing online for inspiration from other magazine designs, and once I felt adequately inspired I began my design. I wanted to try something new so I decided on this cool effect where the title is cut out of an image to give it more depth be more visually interesting. It was surprisingly easy to do as I used Adobe Illustrator to make the cut out of the short film title and then threw it into Adobe InDesign to add it to the spread. I really love how it came out and I am going to continue to touch it up before adding it to the final magazine, and I can not wait to see all the pages we made together.
