Hi everyone. I hope that you all had a good week! Prior to this post I talked about my first week in Marywood’s MFA program. Today I’m going to talk about a few of the projects I did during my second week. The following projects were done in my Conceptual Exercises class!
A project that we did early on in the week was redesigning a logo on a product that we found in our house! Here are the logos that I chose for my redesign. I thought that the vanilla sandwich one really wasn’t that bad, but there was a lot going wrong with the BBQ sauce label…
Here are my redesigns! We only had a short time to work on these projects before we would meet again for class, so I left them pretty simple. I thought that the darker color worked better for a BBQ sauce label because to me browns are more associated with the way that it looks. My class agreed that the original label looked like it was advertising spaghetti sauce and not BBQ sauce!
Another project that we did during the week was making a design for some playing cards. Once again I went simple because we didn’t have tons of time. I chose one of my favorite topics also… Birds! I used the colors that are usually used on playing cards for my design with an added light blue color. I really like how these turned out!

The last project that I’ll share with you was our final project for the class. We had to design a poster for the “Thinking Creatively Conference.” which is a real conference held at a college every year. We were advised not to looked at the real posters for the event before working on our own.

I went with the the representation of thinking with cogs, and how that thinking can “sprout” new ideas. I used my posca paint pens to do all of the artwork, scanned that artwork onto my computer, and then added the black background behind it all. I wasn’t really liking this design when it was on white paper, but once I added a darker background I became happier with it. In the end I was really happy with how it turned out.
These were only a few of the smaller projects this week, but all of them that I got to do were a lot of fun, and taught me a lot about how to think up different concepts with a variety of assignments. It was different from my first week of classes where we only worked on one project the whole week, but I enjoyed this format as well! Overall I had a great week, but I have to admit, it was a lot of hard work, and i’ll need some time to rest after it.
Oh, and the header of this post is another image that I completed for the class as well!
