Hello Everyone, and Merry Christmas! This week I’ve been waiting to tell you all about the Milwaukee Art Museum. Two weeks ago, I took a trip to Milwaukee, and this art museum took my breath away.
This building not only houses art, but it itself is a work of art. It was created by Santiago Calatrava in 2001, and was originally started in 1888 with the founding of the the Milwaukee Art Association (later Milwaukee Art Institute). This unique building captured my interest immediately. Even though I knew it was an art museum, I spent a long while admiring the outside before I ventured in.

First thing that caught my attention once I got inside was a piece by Julian Schnabel. “Claudio al Mandrione (zona rosa)”. From a distance, it seemed to be a regular textured work, but as I got closer, I could see that this work is a collage. Hundreds of different ceramic objects, smashed, make up this interesting piece. I can only imagine the fun it must’ve been to create.

Something that appealed to me, having just finished a class on Typography, was this poster. I recognized the Helvetica font, and swiss design simplicity. I found this poster for the Chicago Public Library very witty.

Though it by no means is a quick trip, the distance won’t stop me from recommending this beautiful museum. It houses so many treasures and things to look at. This place holds original pieces of many famous artists, Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein to name only two. It truly is an educational and impressive display.
