When is it time to make that transition from a part-time job to a full-time job in the profession you’re studying? Well the best answer is as soon as possible. You want to get a head start on your career before you even graduate. That way you don’t have to struggle after college to find one. Even if it’s an internship it’s still good to have on a resume.
Art is a difficult field to get a stable job in if you don’t make the effort to make connections with people. The more you put yourself out there the better chance you have to finding a job. Even if it’s a small job that you do on the side. I’m guilty for not pushing myself harder to make an effort but I’m trying to change that. I want to be able to go to my job everyday with a smile on my face.
Right now I’m working a part-time job that I really don’t like and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Lots of college students have jobs that they probably don’t like. My advice is: do something about it. I’m not saying quit your job because that’s reckless, but you should find one that can help you with your future profession. It will help you in the long run and give you a head start in your field. I’m taking my own advice and I’ve applied to a few privately owned jewelry stores. I want to some day design and sell my own pieces. This will help me get experience and make connections for my future. I know it will be worth it in the end.
