One of Barcelona’s most impressive and important art museums is the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya. This gigantic museum is located at the top of a hill, so to get to it you need to climb a lot of stairs—but you’re surrounded by enormous fountains and beautiful sculptures the entire way up! The location itself is its own work of art!
Once you’re up the stairs and inside the building, you choose which time periods you want to check out. Sections include Gothic, Renaissance, Modern, and temporary exhibitions. I started with the modern art section, which included works by famous artists such as Dali and Tapies. Here are a few paintings that I enjoyed from the modern section.
Planimetría 58 by Joan Vilacasas
I absolutely loved these pieces by Vilacasas. I also love to add texture to my pieces by scratching into the paint and canvas, so it was helpful to see a how a great artist uses this technique.
