For the last assignment in Painting III class we were told to create as many or as few abstract pieces that are completely non-objective. This is definitely a challenge because these are not supposed to be based on anything visual. The assignment also stresses a focus on the process of painting and different methods, rather than the final product.
It’s immensely difficult to come up with ideas for these pieces. Ive found myself focusing on general color but coming up with the same composition and shapes.
I have also moved on from working with acrylics and switched over to oils. I like them better for the blended style and texture that develops in my paintings. I’ve also moved away from using traditional tools like paint brushes. I am now finger painting. It’s fun and very ‘hands on’.
This assignment is for the rest of the semester so I will keep you all updated.
