This semester, I’m taking an Advanced Painting course, something I’ve been excited for all summer! My goals for this semester include improving at oil painting as well as focusing on curating some strong portfolio pieces. Luckily, our first assignment has proven to be quite broad/open-ended and the course itself is very self-lead.
Contiguous Landscape
The assignment itself specifies that we must work across multiple (3-5) canvases depicting a landscape. There should be some form of variety between each of the artworks (lighting, weather, or time of day, to list a few options). I chose to approach this piece in a less traditional manner, working in a portrait format rather than landscape. I’m aiming to have subtle lighting changes across my three paintings rather than something more noticeably dramatic. So far, I have made a decent amount of progress, especially considering I’ve been able to finish the underpainting in just under two weeks.
The due date for this piece is right around the same time of my next blog post, which works out perfectly! My next post will feature my updated progress as well as an artist statement on the finished piece.
