Character Design

It’s the first week of the fall semester 2025! It was a hectic week but it has been so nice getting back into the groove of things!

One of the classes I am taking this semester is Character Design! This week we did some figure drawing exercises and some character design exercises.

These are the figure studies, we had a minute to sketch out a full random pose to get a better understanding of angles and how to use negative space to more accurately capture a pose you’re referencing!

For these figure studies, we used a thicker marker to create silhouettes of the poses to force us to focus on the overall pose instead of the little details, and it was super helpful! (Side note, the purple here is caused by a purple light in my room and I thought it gave the picture a really fun effect!)

At the end of the class, we have 30 minutes to create a character based off a prompt we are given! for this on, the prompt was “A kindergarten teacher after her first day of school” and it was so much fun seeing the different results everyone made!

This week has been so much fun and I am very excited for the rest of the semester!!

I hope everyone has been settling in well and is getting used to all their new classes!
