Paint and Sip

This past week, I went with my mom to a paint and sip that she was instructing. Since my 21st birthday was last month, this was the first paint and sip I could fully attend and enjoy! While my mom demonstrated a separate painting, I chose to work on something just for fun. Whenever it comes to painting organic forms, I’m able to be a lot less self-critical. I’m able to enjoy the process more, rather than focusing on everything being perfectly symmetrical or accurate.

As I created this piece, I came across one major struggle. The acrylics I was working with were not the same quality as what I typically use. The consistency was a lot more fluid, as opposed to the thicker acrylics I usually work with. However, I’m still very proud of the end result!

The process I used for this painting is somewhat of a “faux” oil approach. I started by toning the canvas with a cool, yellow, umber-like shade. Keeping the sketch loose, I blocked in the values in a singular hue. The rest of the process consisted of layering, adjusting, and sculpting the forms. Overall, I’m happy with the product and will likely be working in this same approach again.
