Over the past two weeks of my painting class I have been slowly building up layers on my third piece of the class. The first two were done with only raw umber and titanium white, but for this one I was finally allowed to work with a few more colors. The palette is still limited, but it now has five colors: raw umber, titanium white, venetian red, ultramarine blue, and yellow ochre. I have really been enjoying being able to play with color combinations and mixing.
The biggest challenge I have run into with this piece has actually been that I have a tendency to work too fast. I have always been relatively quick painter, I get exited and want to put all of the details in at once. This doesn’t work very well in a realistic oil painting so I have had to really force myself to work up the painting slowly in layers.
