Paper Snowflakes

This week I have been experimenting with using cut out paper snowflakes to create symmetrical and repetitive patterns in my work. I used this technique in two paintings. In the first, I pasted the cut outs in two different smaller areas and painted layers over top of them. These areas were surrounded by hand painted patterns like what I normally do.

In the second painting I took a different approach. I used a paper the size of my canvas for the snowflake and let it cover the entire surface without coating the white of the paper with more paint. This was very different from how I normally work because I only used one kind of pattern instead of many, and the limited colors forced me to focus more on line work.
