Pouring Paints!

Hi friends! I hope everyone is enjoying their summers so far! As you know, I’ve been trying to incorporate art into each of my days this summer. So this week, I did some pouring paint canvases!

For anyone who’s unaware of what pouring paint is, it’s exactly what it sounds like; paint you can pour. I’m sure there are many techniques for how to do it, but I’m going to tell you about mine! I’ve been using this type of paint for a few years now and have a nice system worked out!

To begin, I set up a drop cloth on whatever surface I choose to create on. I then grab a canvas, and position on top of a small jar so that the edges of the canvas are exposed and not touching the cloth. This allows for the paint to drip off the sides and create a really nice finish. I then get a jar and fill it with many layers of different color pouring paints. As you all know, I LOVE bright colors so I always choose the most vibrant colors I can. Next, I place the canvas face down on top of the jar of paint. Then, I flip both the jar and the canvas in one fast motion and place them both on the small jar I mentioned earlier. After that, I pick up the upside down jar of paint on top of the canvas and let the paint spread itself out across the canvas. Finally, I help guide the paint around to make sure it covers all the edges, and then it just needs to dry!

I find this style of art to be so relaxing and calming as it requires almost no skill or thought. It’s very therapeutic for me to put some music on and create some cool pieces!

That’s all for today! I hope you enjoyed reading about pouring paints and maybe have been inspired to try it yourself!
