Hey, everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July weekend and are staying cool in the hot weather. In my last post, I wrote about my experience and progress with chalk pastels and shared some of my favorite drawings over the years. Since it is one of my favorite mediums, I thought it would be perfect for my concept idea for this drawing.
For this drawing, I wanted to create a dreamy, peaceful scene and really try to push myself with reflections and shadows. I looked up some dreamy cloud landscapes on Google and took inspiration from those images for my drawing. These are some of the images I found on https://www.google.com. With these inspirations, I wanted to challenge myself to portray shadows, reflections, and backlighting as realistically as I could.

These are my progress photos of my drawing so far. I am really happy with how the clouds are looking, and I hope it continues to improve. In the first image, I focused on finishing the sky background and reflecting it in the water. I mapped out a rough outline of the clouds to plan the rest of the drawing. In my second progress photo, I was able to complete the rough form of the clouds and begin creating the fluffy forms and the sun’s backlighting. The next steps I plan to take when I get back to my classes are to reflect the clouds on the water before I get too nitpicky about the drawing.
I apologize for the short post this week, but I’ve had limited time to work on this drawing with the holiday preparations and family. I hope you’re all having a wonderful summer! Let me know your thoughts about my drawing so far. I would love to hear your thoughts!
Thanks for reading!
