See You Later Alligator

Last week I talked about a strategy I found that made making tessellations simple and easy. However, It still wasn’t easy for me. For my first tessellation I decided to make an alligator.

I started with a square and placed a picture of an alligator within it so that I had a general idea of what my shape should look like. I started shaping my tessellation by drawing a line and translating it to the opposite side of the square from where I drew it.

It took a very long time to get all of the pieces to fit together while still having the shape of an alligator. During this process I had to constantly remind myself to be patient.

The last step that I took in the making of my tessellation was to make sure that all of the pieces actually fit together. I did this by copying and pasting the image in every direction and making any needed changes to make all of the parts fit together with no overlaps.

I’m very happy with the way that the tessellation turned out and I can’t wait to see what it looks like when I print it!
