Don’t do things so last minute. But every minute has the potential to be last minute. So do things whenever you want.
When you get the opportunity to show your work, but the show is in two weeks and you’re completely unprepared – that is the perfect time to say yes. Yes, I’ll do it. You can’t rush art but sometimes you have to rush art. Pressure is nice. If you feel as though you have all the time in the world to make good art, then you are wrong. Time is not going to wait for you.
Say yes to short notice. I was offered an opportunity to show my work in less than two weeks. I have nothing ready. None of those great new projects I promised myself I would work on all summer. But now I have a deadline that is tangible. Let’s go. Let’s make some crazy fast stupid beautiful art. No time for planning. Just do it, says Nike. Okay. Let’s do it. So you might not be making masterpieces but at least you’re making.
My advice: take a chance on whatever you told yourself you couldn’t do. You definitely can do it.
Come see the results of short notice:
