Among the several photography related activities/positions I hold around campus as an undergraduate Photography major, being the President of the Shutterbugs Photography Club is by far my favorite.

If you don’t know, the Shutterbugs are Marywood’s student photography club, and we meet bi-weekly during the academic year to do various activities and talk about photography. We have a monthly photo prompt that members submit photos of, where we discuss composition, lighting, general aesthetics, and the growth of the photographer’s skill. We also have a different photography activity that we do, such as going in the studio to do a still life shoot, portrait work, blind photography (a fan favorite), or various trips on and off campus.

We also have a member spotlight on our Instagram page where we post photos our members have taken as well as their answers to a few questions about their photography and why they love it. If you’re a current Marywood student interested in joining Shutterbugs, or you just want to support our club, check out our Instagram page (@mushutterbugs) and our Facebook page! Most important of all, we hold an annual member exhibition in the spring semester showcasing the wonderful work of our members and club leaders. It is by far the most anticipated event we hold and is loads of fun to participate in and attend! Students learn about selecting work for a gallery, hanging their photos, and working together to make an exhibition happen. If you’re a Marywood University student be sure to keep your eyes and ears open this spring for our Annual Shutterbugs Member gallery exhibition.

This upcoming semester we have lots of fun things planned and are hoping to expand our club membership to even more students. The club is open to anyone, no matter their major or skill level, and we encourage anyone with an affinity for photography to join! This year we are planning some local trip(s) likely to Nay Aug park to photograph the amazing waterfall there. We are also hoping to do more fundraisers, including our Photobooth that we’ve done in the past, and even more Headshots events.

This years Involvement fair (now called the Student Engagement Block Party) will be held Wednesday September 6, 2023 from 3pm to 5pm outside Naz, so if you’re interested in joining Shutterbugs, please come by our table and sign up!
