Hi everyone! I have some super exciting ceramics updates, as well as updates on my watercolor painting! If you read my last post, you know about the replica of my grandparents’ house I made, which I prayed would survive the bisque kiln. I’m happy to let you know that it survived and only has slight warping on the roof slabs. I’m so relieved, and as of yesterday, I sanded down as many imperfections as I could and gave it a good rinse so it would be ready to glaze once I have a plan. I only have a photo from before I sanded it, but I’ll still show you.

On another note, I also finished sculpting another of my ceramic projects, where I had to create something that represented a metaphor or idiom, and I chose “bite the bullet.” I wanted to make something functional for this project while still making it obvious what the phrase I chose was. So, I made a bullet-shaped lidded jar and a saucer with a mouth “biting” it. To be completely honest, I accidentally dropped the first bullet jar I made and tried to fix it, but ended up making a new one. Then, after I made the new one, I realized I liked the shape of the old one better, so I just kept the old one and tried to salvage it as much as I could, accepting that it might crack as it dries. I peeked at it yesterday, and it had a bit of a crack in the lid, but nothing serious, so it can be fixed with glaze. Luckily, it’s not intended for food storage, so it’s no problem. I’ll show you some photos below.

Lastly, the watercolor painting I’ve been working on is going great! I’m super excited to be done so that I can submit the finished piece to the Where Creativity Works: 10 Years of Excellence exhibition and start something new, because I have a lot of ideas. I severely underestimated how long it would take to paint these hyperrealistic objects, but I’ve been having a lot of fun with it. I didn’t know what was going to happen when I started painting, since this was just a class project, but I’m learning so much throughout the process and gaining a lot of confidence in my abilities. I’m almost done with the second object, so I think I’ll be able to finish it in the next couple of days. I will definitely update you when I’m done, but here’s what it looks like so far.
Well, that’s all I have for this week. I’m super excited to document the glazing process for the many pieces from this past semester! I’m going to take as many pictures as I can to show you all. Take care, everyone!
