Starting My Final Semester

Hey, everyone! I can’t believe the Fall Semester is already here, and we’ve finished the first week of classes. It feels very surreal to me that this is my final semester here at Marywood. Somehow, I was fortunate enough to shave a whole semester off school, meaning I will be finished this December (very scary!). That being said, I don’t know about you guys, but I’m still in summer mode. My brain hasn’t fully kicked into school/work mode quite yet. However, it is getting there lol. Slowly but surely, I am getting inspiration and ideas for my design projects this semester.

Speaking of design projects, I am taking Design Business and Production this fall, and we have a semester-long project all about rebranding popular chain restaurants. I chose Red Robin for my project focus, and I had some great ideas during the logo development phase.

We were tasked with creating word lists to capture how we wanted our rebrand to feel and what it would represent as a whole. I was really inspired by retro and vintage restaurants, so I came up with some logos that reflect that vibe. These are the initial logo sketches that I came up with while thinking about this project. I really wanted to focus on the burger and the retro focus, but some of them were a little too complicated for my concept. We had a class critique to choose which logos were most interesting and effective to develop further in Illustrator. My classmates really liked the sauce splatter, so I wanted to push that one further with different typefaces and design configurations.

I’m still working on the second phase of my logo development, so I don’t have anything more to share about this project. However, I am really excited to see how the logos turn out and which one my peers like the best. At the start of this semester, I had a bit of a hard time coming up with ideas and adapting to my new class schedule. I feel a bit all over the place right now, but hopefully I will get used to it as the semester progresses. However, I am eager to share all the updates and progress checks on this semester-long project with you guys.

Please feel free to comment on which sketch you liked the best. I would love to hear what you have to say!

Thank you so much for reading, and happy start of the semester, everyone!

– Cecelia 🙂
