Steal My Art

As part of my Arts Administration major I take a few Communication Arts classes, and one of those this semester is Audio Production.

I thought this would be a fun class but didn’t expect to like it as much as I do. In particular I really like editing and mixing audio, not so much the voice acting part but I’m even beginning to like that more than I did.

Our current project is to make a podcast, we can make it about pretty much anything we find interesting or want to talk about. I knew I wanted to do something with art, or something art-related. I eventually settled on art thefts/heists.

I think art heists are incredibly interesting topics, I mean, they’re all risk and basically no reward. Sure paintings are mostly lightweight in comparison to their net values, easier to carry out a Picasso than 20 million dollars in cash. But you can’t really sell the painting at that point, even if you had a private buyer lined up, that piece could never go on display without fear of the wrong person noticing the stolen painting.

And funny enough a few days after I settled on this topic for my project my own art had been stolen. The person that did it also funny enough told my own sister they did it, what a way to get caught.

And a single day after that the Louvre was robbed. If those events coinciding with my decision aren’t the biggest signs I’ve ever seen then I don’t know what is.

I think overall the show will be about AI though, because yes humans stealing art is one thing, but an artificial intelligence is a whole other horrifying thing that is more normalized than it should be.
The first “episode” of the show will be up around the end of this week, 11/16 at the latest. But I have a promo up if anyone wants to take a look, search up  “Steal My Art” on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. I’ll be talking about art, art theft, and AI 🙂
