Student Spotlight – Alexander Wachholz

Meet Alex!

Name: Alex Wachholz

Year you’ll be graduating: Class of 2023

Major: Illustration

I am majoring in Art because art has always been a large part of my life growing up in a house full of my Dad’s paintings and I would love to use my own talent to become someone involved in video game design. However, I am also open to other opportunities that come my way.

The kinds of things that inspire me are different types of music which help me create and capture a lot of my ideas as i try to bring them to life.

My favorite class so far was Painting I which was a class where I learned a lot and gained an even further appreciation for paint as a medium.

When I’m not in class I’m sketching in my sketchbook usually with pencils or colored pencils, or I’m playing video games from which I draw a lot of inspiration and get my own ideas for my art.

The coolest thing I’ve done so far was probably my avatar self-portrait project in Computer Graphics where I used a lot of simple shapes to show depth and contrast as I put them together to replicate an image of myself.

When I graduate I hope to achieve a successful career in art out of what I have learned along with my talent to express my ideas and imagination.

I’d recommend the Art program at Marywood because the teachers are very interactive with their students and will set you up for success in the future to enter the art world.

My favorite medium is simply paper and pencil. There is so much that you can do with what may seem like a simple or common medium, but if you use it correctly there is a lot that you can express and show with pencils and paper.
