Hey all, meet Alexis! Alexis is an Art Therapy major with a graphic design minor who loves to travel all over the world.
Meet Alexis
Name: Alexis Leonard, Class of 2019
Major: Art Therapy
Minor: Graphic Design
I am majoring in art because… it is the one thing that I truly enjoy. Art has been my escape since I was young. I would skip band class in high school and go to the art room, I would rather paint than do any homework to this day! Making art keeps me up until I see the sun sometimes and there is nothing more that I would want in life. Being able to do the same thing, day after day, and not get sick of it? That is a wonderful thing.
The kinds of things that inspire me are… the people who are currently in my life and those who I’ve had the pleasure of having in my life. Growing up, I was given such confidence and love by my family that I am able to do anything I set my mind to because of them.
My favorite class so far was… 3D with Dennis Corrigan freshman year. Though I made jewelry when I was in middle school, this class reintroduced me to wire and I found my love for it. I made a hummingbird sculpture that I am still really proud of!
When I’m not in class… I’m either eating odd foods, playing with wire, or watching cute animal videos.
The coolest thing I’ve done so far was… travel to a lot of places. Over the years, I’ve traveled to Budapest, Amsterdam, Kraków, Paris (twice), Venice, Milan, Padua, Berlin, and Prague.
When I graduate… from both undergrad and grad, I plan on living at home for a couple years. From there, I hope to find a job close by but am open to a commute!
I’d recommend the art program at Marywood because… of the art buildings. Out of all the school’s I had visited, Marywood was the only university with their own art buildings. We may take this for granted, but I could never imagine being an art major and only having classes in one room.
Some of Alexis’ Work
Thank you Alexis for being a part of Student Spotlight this week and I hope to see more of your work on campus! Keep traveling Alexis and never stop creating. I’ll see you next week and until then, stay positive, light a candle and as always stay inspired.
