Student Spotlight: Marybeth Henry

Welcome Back!

Hiya, guys and gals!  It’s that time of year again!  So we’ve all just come back to Marywood, and with a new year, comes new students, and this week I’d like to introduce a good friend of mine, Marybeth Henry. I’ve known Marybeth since my freshman year, and I am just so excited to introduce her to you all.

Marybeth HenryMeet Marybeth

Name: Marybeth Henry, Class of 2018
Major: Art Therapy
Minor: Psychology

I am majoring in Art because it has always been my dream career. I fell in love with art at a young age and I have always wanted to incorporate it into my life. This major gave me the opportunity to not only do the thing I love but to also help people.

The kinds of things that inspire me as an artist can be random and not really make any sense to anyone but me. However things that inspire me in my life are my parents. I want to make them proud and show them I can accomplish anything I set my mind to.

My favorite class so far was Ceramics. I was able to truly let my inner artist out because there was not as many guidelines. I felt this class was calming and gave me something to look forward to during the week. I truly enjoyed working with clay.

When I’m not in class I am either out with my friends or working.

The coolest thing I’ve done so far was, hmm… In my personal life I would have to say skydiving was pretty cool, however in my artistic life, I studied abroad in Paris and was able to have the artwork I made there displayed in a show back in Scranton, and that was mind blowing.

When I graduate I would like to move near NYC and go to NYU for grad school. I have always dreamed of going there.

I’d recommend the Art program at Marywood because of the professors.  The professors I have had so far are truly talented. They really take the time to answer questions and they always try to put a smile on your face. They try to be structured, but they also realize that this is art school and it is a time for creativity.

Some of Marybeth’s Work

Thanks to Marybeth for being our first spotlight of the year, and showcasing some of this awesome work.  Keep on creating, girl!  Until next week, Duckies!
