Teaching, Teaching, Teaching

So I made it through my first full week of student teaching, and although I have not taught any lessons in this placement yet, I am always teaching something!  Whether it be showing a preschool or kindergarten student how to correctly hold scissors in the classroom or how to make pinch pots in my after-school private art class, I am always teaching (I guess that’s a good sign since that’s what I plan to do for the rest of my life).  But this weekend I took a different route and taught a “Paint and Sip” Night as a part of a fundraiser for Marywood’s Alternative Spring Break Service Trip to Philadelphia, in which they will be serving meals and organizing clothes for the local homeless population in Kensington through the organization Blessed Sarnelli Community.

Since this wasn’t my first time teaching, or even teaching a step by step painting to a group of around 20 people, I knew what to expect.  The only difference with this group was that it was BYOB, whereas the other two events that I have hosted included only non-alcoholic beverages.  This weekends image was a beautiful pink accented spring scene, picked out by the Service Team, that matched the beautiful weather that we were having.

The paintings came out great and the team was able to raise some money to help with their travel costs, and I was able to get a little bit more practice in teaching classes for adults.  I know that it will come in handy one day.
