Recently I entered a call for entry at Photo Lounge in Philadelphia for their show The Family Photo: Redux, and was very happy to be accepted and have my work displayed in their gallery! As a member of their film club I was able to submit my photos to the gallery for free (!!!) and have my work shown. If you are a student and are interested in joining their film club, its free to join and I highly recommend! The membership includes different discounts for film developing and prints, as well as special opportunities like galleries and other fun photo events. This is my second showing in their gallery and they are one of my favorite photographer communities (second only to my Shutterbugs Photo Club here at Marywood 💛). And if you are in need of black and white or color film processing definitely check them out.
Photos from the gallery reception:

The theme of the member show that my work was featured in was film photos of family, focused on disposable camera photos. I chose these two images because they captured moments that felt so real and authentic to me, and were scenes I had seen a thousand times. My grandfather standing in front of his chair watching a basketball game on television, and my grandmother making what my family always considers too much pasta for the six of us. I did edit the digital scans to fix some overexposure due to the proximity of the flash in the photo of my grandmother, as well as making my grandfather stand out more in his photo.

I originally took these photos for an assignment in my Color Photography class (Art 318 with professor Sue Jenkins) where we were asked to use a disposable film camera to capture “a day in the life”, focusing on color. It was my first time using a disposable and really got me into the aesthetic and color of disposables and I am now officially hooked!
