In the dictionary, wonder (noun) is defined as a feeling of surprise mingled with admiration, caused by something beautiful, unexpected, unfamiliar, or inexplicable. If I look around the world, look deeply at my life, and the miracle of life in its many forms, I am filled with wonder.
Louis Armstrong’s song It’s a Wonderful World captures the essence of this feeling, and it too fills me with a sense of wonder.
I paint and am amazed at the beauty of blended colors. I show completed works to peers and they react with awe, and I do the same when I see their art.
The saints, sages, and spiritual masters have known a universal truth that the breath of God is in everything. If you stare long enough you can see it and it will fill you with wonder. This is also why so many accept that the closer you are to nature, the closer you are to God. This applies to human nature too.
The glow that surrounds pregnant women. The blush of a friend when teasing (respectfully). The silly delight of novelty socks that brings out the inner child. Sensing someone opening their heart to others in a moment of compassion. All these and more fill me with wonder.
The power of wonder is miraculous, divine, a blessing, and serenity. It connects us, soul to soul.
The smile that reaches the eyes. A baby’s laughter. A cat’s purr. A dog’s tail wagging.
Look at life, let if fill you with awe, with wonder. Tap into that power and let it wash over your life. After all, you’re wonderful too.
