A Trading Card For All

One of the best ways to communicate with other people is to make an artist trading card. This idea was originally created in 1977 by M. Vänçi Stirnemann, a Swill artist. He created an Exhibition of 1200 trading cards and on the last day he invited others to make their own card and trade with him.  Each trading card is unique to the person who made it and is usually traded at an organized event, either online or in person. The only “rules” is that the cards themselves have to be  2.5″ x 3.5.”

When creating mine, I wanted to keep it simple. I personally love tea and attached to my tea bags are inspirational quotes. I decided to use one of my favorites, “there is nothing like you, there was nothing like you, there will be nothing like you,” by Yogi. This quote makes you feel special and unique and able to change the world.

I wanted to keep the trading card organic, so I chose to use colored pencils so that the cardboards natural color could still be seen. I decided to cut out petals to make a flower that will pop off the card because every petal in a flower is unique.

Making a trading card gives you a unique feeling because perfection doesn’t matter; its about showing yourself and passing on something positive to another person. Normally, you would trade your card with another artist, but I enjoyed the process so much that I have decided to make more and when I have made what I feel are enough, I will hide them around my college campus for others to find with the intention of making someone smile and/or boosting their confidence/self-esteem
